Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about accounts, courses, merit badges, payments, and documents. Role-specific FAQ sets are planned for a later release.

Accounts

  • Who can create an account?

Parents/guardians, Merit Badge Counselors, and Scout Leaders can register. Scouts cannot self-register — a parent creates and manages Scout accounts after adult ID verification.

  • Why do adults verify identity?

Adult ID verification (Stripe Identity) supports COPPA-aligned parental consent and youth-protection expectations before creating Scout accounts or counseling.

  • Can one login have multiple roles?

Yes. From Account roles you can enable Parent, Merit Badge Counselor, and/or Scout Leader on the same account without a second login.

  • Can another parent see my Scout without sharing a login?

Yes. The parent who created the Scout can invite a co-parent by email from Children. After ID verification, that adult can view courses and progress but cannot enroll, pay, or change the Scout’s profile. Scout in-app messaging stays blocked until every linked parent opts in to messaging email.

  • I forgot my password. What do I do?

Adults (parent, counselor, Scout Leader) use Forgot password on the sign-in page. We’ll email a reset link if that address has an account. Scouts don’t have email logins — a parent can update the Scout username or password from Children, and a failed Scout login also emails the linked parent.

Courses & merit badges

  • Does Scouting Badger award official badges?

No. Counseling and evidence live here for convenience. Unit leaders record official advancement in Scoutbook / the unit’s process.

  • How do Scouts join a course?

A parent enrolls from the course catalog (and pays the registration fee when required). Scouts then open the course from their Dashboard.

  • What is Register Now for Scouts?

A Scout can request registration on a course page. Linked parents receive an email with a link to complete paid enrollment. Seats are not held until payment.

Payments & documents

  • What am I paying for?

Parents typically pay a platform registration fee at enrollment. Counselor stipend handling (when configured) is separate from official BSA fees.

  • Where is the blue card / counseling summary?

When counseling is complete, parents and counselors can access blue card / export materials from the course workspace for unit handoff.
